The revival of the U.S. economy has led to rise in consumer demand and housing. Trucking companies are finding themselves scrambling to find drivers to bring goods to the market. At the moment, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the trucking industry is looking at a shortfall of 35,000 truck drivers. The shortage has resulted in major carriers struggling, surging freight rates and a potential increase in inflation. If left unaddressed, this shortfall is expected to go up to around 240,000 drivers by 2020.
