U.S. Receivers Must Now Assume Responsibilities Of Food Shippers—Are You Ready?

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) will take effect in less than six months and significantly change current procedures for foreign food export transportation operations – including rules for personnel, vehicles, containers, trailers, tools, and equipment. The law will impact more than 84,000 food shippers, carriers, and receivers. Are you one of them?

Whether you are a U.S. food importer or a foreign supplier to the U.S, you need to upgrade your FSMA compliance know-how so that you don’t run afoul of the FDA. Join Dr. John Ryan in this live webinar as he walks you through the final rules—now law—under which the U.S. receiver must now assume the responsibilities of the shipper, and also assure that foreign food exporters and carriers comply with FSMA transportation food safety rules.

Once a food shipment hits a U.S. port and is loaded onto a truck or train, all U.S. laws apply—regardless of the sea and air exemptions. That means you’ll have to ensure that the shippers and carrier operations you work with have fully compliant food-handling, loading, distribution, and transportation processes in place. Training your own personnel as well as your foreign suppliers is mandatory!

Make no mistake—the recent changes to the FSMA are significant. They include self-reporting of compliance failures (now required)—as well as critical shipper-carrier agreements for data, records, and reporting. Ryan will equip you to comply with all these key updates and to protect your company by assuring that foreign loaders, shippers, and carriers are abiding by new food safety rules as well.
