ELD Implementation:Explore the Systems, the Costs, and Benefits

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) final rule for electronic logging devices (ELDs) had a compliance date of December 18, 2017. Many motor carriers already used ELDs, but many companies still have not taken action to implement them in their trucks. If that’s you, the time is now to get the ball rolling.

There are many reasons why you may opt to adopt an ELD, above and beyond the FMCSA’s mandate. An ELD helps avoid paper log violations and problems with law enforcement personnel. Apart from simplifying your log processes and driver accuracy, it will improve your operational efficiency, help you become proactive in your fleet and risk management objectives and reduce your administrative costs.

In this session, expert speaker Mark Dixon will analyze the system requirements, rules and specifics of what you need to know for this implementation process. After implementing ELDs, you no longer need to buy paper logbooks, can eliminate salaried log-keeping positions, and can significantly reduce the use of log scanning services. Any time you maintain paper logs, you risk information being recorded incorrectly. The utilization of ELDs can eliminate Hours of Service (HOS) noncompliance. Hours of Service rules and regulations are somewhat confusing for many drivers. ELDs simplify this task by displaying additional information, including when a driver is required to take a break, communicating to the driver how long he or she must rest while on break, communicating to the driver how much time he or she has left to drive before a rest period is required.

Companies in their first year of running ELDs found no drivers were placed out of service due to noncompliance. Explore the systems, the costs, and what they do. This session will provide the A-Z answers to all your questions on ELD implementation. Learn the systems, the basics, the products, and the specifics of how best to implement your ELD rollout now.
