As an American exporter or importer, you can be prohibited from transactions of any type with various individuals, businesses and groups who constitute the so-called U.S. Prohibited Party Lists. Persons and entities can appear on those lists even though they have no connection with an embargoed country or sanctioned activity. Access and continuous monitoring of these Prohibited Party lists are mandatory for those involved in U.S. foreign trade, and such otherwise banned transactions can incur substantial civil, even criminal penalties.
How to comply with the so-called “personal” embargoes that the U.S. maintains against more than 20,000 persons, organizations and business entities around the world? You will learn that many of these targeted parties are in “friendly” countries such as Canada, Singapore and Israel.
In this webinar, trade attorney Robin Grover will analyze and document the major and minor multiple Prohibited Party lists published and updated by the federal government. Grover will discuss how to identify parties on those lists, when to conduct such searches, and how to document your search results. This session will also offer you a suggested program and sets of best practices to protect your employer and yourself.
This presentation will describe, in plain English, the otherwise fairly complex content of the multiple U.S. Prohibited Party lists, how to plan for alternative and similar names for your overseas trade partners, and how to find the right database that incorporates the most lists of U.S. Prohibited Parties.
You will learn about the major threats to your company associated with transactional and trade embargoes that target single individuals, companies, or organizations. You will also learn how to avoid the pitfalls associated with dealing with a designated party even though the latter is located in a country on good political and economic relations with the U.S. Aside from this, Grover will tell you how to avoid penalties – even if an error occurs by implementing and updating a trade compliance program that effectively addresses Prohibited Parties.
After attending this session, you will be able to adopt and put into effect an advance corporate strategy that can spot the potential threats and possible benefits, and place your company in a far better strategic and financial position.
