Event Description

Review the Intellectual Property Rights as Enforced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Imported Goods

Just about any manufactured product has intellectual property rights bundled up with it, most of the time without the knowledge of the importer, but U.S. Customs and Border has made enforcement of intellectual property rights a priority. If you import, you are likely to eventually confront intellectual property rights issues. Get prepared for it through this webinar by expert speaker Oscar Gonzalez.

This webinar will review the Intellectual Property Rights as enforced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on imported goods. Oscar will review the rights, remedies, and powers of the holders of intellectual property rights, as rights and defenses by importers who have been accused of violating someone’s Intellectual Property Rights.

You will learn of the different types of intellectual property rights (trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trademark) and the role that CBP plays in enforcing them. You will also learn about recordation, the procedure for holders to use to make sure that infringing products get stopped at the border. You will learn how, if you are an importer, to defend against enforcement actions.

Session Highlights:

  • Intellectual Property Rights will be explained in simple terms, as will the procedures for recording and enforcing those rights with U.S. Customs and Border Protection
  • You will learn the difference between copyright, trademark, trade name, and patents
  • You will learn the CBP’s procedure under for investigating suspected infringement cases and your legal rights to administrative relief and access to the courts
