Prepare for Possible Policy Changes in U.S. Trade Initiatives under Trump Administration

Currently, the Trump administration has been considering six major trade policy initiatives. Adoption and implementation of any one of these could dramatically raise your import costs and have an equally dramatic impact on your company’s import program and the way you conduct business. Join this session with expert speaker Robin W. Grover, which will help you identify these possible policy changes. You will gain awareness of the potential impact of these multiple, varied trade initiatives on your company and its import program. You will learn how to address them in advance so that you are not “surprised” by new problems in your import compliance program. You will learn the advance measures you could take to legally avoid or minimize their impact on your products and on your company as an importer and exporter.

Robin will describe a series of best practices to identify these effects and the actions you can take to avoid or mitigate them. You will be able to determine whether the Trump trade policy changes impact your company and identify any steps you can take to either re-engineer your products, find new foreign sources, and to account for the potential costs that may be associated with these changes.

Session Objectives

The session will review six major trade initiatives of the Trump Administration, which include:

  • Expansion of coordinated agency efforts against antidumping/countervailing duty evasion

  • Use of Section 232 to limit aluminum imports
  • Possible additional tariffs on products from China
  • Possible punitive tariffs on selected products from the European Union
  • What form revisions to NAFTA, KORUS and other U.S. free trade agreements might take
