After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Physical Chemistry, Philip Jacoby spent his career in the Plastics & Polymer industry working in Polypropylene Product Development for BP Amoco for 26 years, and as VP of Technology for Mayzo in the Polymer Additives Business for 12 years. Philip retired from full time employment in 2014, and is now consult on technical and business areas associated with Polypropylene and Polymer Additives. He is also active in the Southern Section of the SPE. He has 13 US patents and several international patents covering various polypropylene products, with particular emphasis on modifying the crystal structure of polypropylene. At Amoco, Philip developed and commercialized a microporous PP film produced using Beta Nucleation, and he was awarded six patents on this technology. At Mayzo, he developed a new business based on the production and sale of proprietary Beta Nucleant masterbatches used in the production of oriented microporous PP films, thermoformed PP parts, and various other molded and extruded applications.
