Ed Phillips began his career in plastics education before moving into industry with Basell Polyolefins (now LyondellBasell) holding positions in product and applications development, technical service and R&D management. He earned his baccalaureate degree at Rowan University in Industrial and Vocational Education. He conducted a technology transfer and market introduction to Europe of Himont's radiation modified high melt strength polypropylene (HMS PP) in the 1990s. After returning to HIMONT NA as Venture Lead, his technical team supported marketing activities by developing new opportunities based on long chain branched polypropylene in processes where linear PP was not processable due to its inherently low melt strength. Most significantly was foamable PP.
Ed transitioned from R&D to the 'business' in 1994 as Technical Market Development Manager for industrial applications (coatings, un-oriented films, foams, wire & cable applications). His last position there was as Global Marketing Program Manager for Basell's protective coatings business. With the technical specialists from Basell's pipe coating team in Ferrara, Italy, they provided a complete portfolio of functionalized, weatherable, long term heat resistant, extrudable and powder applied polypropylene grades to the oil and gas pipeline protection industry.
In 2005, Ed joined Sterigenics International as Account Manager / Product Manager for their gamma and electron beam polymer radiation processing business.
He formed Edward M. Phillips - Polyolefins Specialist to provide technical and business consultation to polyolefin suppliers and convertors. His principal client today is E-BEAM Services Inc., the largest provider of radiation processing services to the plastics industry in North America.
