Over the recent years, OSHA has dramatically changed the reporting criteria for the 29 CFR 1904 OSHA recordkeeping standards. One of the most drastic changes is the electronic submittal of records for high hazard industries and large employers.
OSHA recordkeeping can be a source of much distress for the employer, due to the complex nature of injuries and losses. An employer can be fined for not following the 1904 rules and the documents released as public records. Many of the fines for incorrect recordkeeping are over $1,000. Therefore, the employer must be aware of what types of items gets recorded in the OSHA logs.
Additionally, incorrect log entries can artificially inflate the Total Recordable Injury Rates (TRIR) and the Days Away Restricted Transfer rates (DART). This can in turn increase the Experience Modification Rating (EMR) of the company and cause them to pay a higher worker compensation premium. It is imperative now, more than ever, to make sure that you understand the requirements for an OSHA recordable injury and illness.
This session by expert speaker Sheldon Primus, MPA, COSM, COSS, will focus on explaining OSHA recordkeeping, the present regulations and recordkeeping rules, and the Injury Tracking Application (ITA). You will learn about the true cost of an accident, the criteria for worker compensation premiums, and the basics of the 29 CFR 1904 regulations. You will learn to distinguish between what is an OSHA recordable and what is not an OSHA recordable injury or illness, and how to use the new Injury Tracking Application (ITA). This session will also help you learn the proper way to enter injury and illness data for all OSHA logs.
