Event Description

Learn about IATA’s Requirements for Lithium Battery Transportation

Lithium batteries are the most preferred energy source to power a wide variety of consumer goods that range from mobile phones to children toys, to cars and e-bikes, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Though widely used, most people are not aware that these batteries are dangerous goods that can pose a safety risk if not prepared in accordance with transportation guidelines. To help with compliance, IATA has developed for shippers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, airlines and passengers guidelines for the transportation and shipping of lithium batteries.

Join this session, where environmental health and safety expert, Joe Keenan, will cover all the updates to IATA’s lithium battery transportation and shipping guidelines. Joe will cover all of the environmental health and safety hazards posed by lithium batteries and will discuss effective ways to mitigate those hazards. He will also address site-specific lithium battery EHS concerns, and IATA updates to lithium battery shipping and receiving scenarios.
