With the new found success of shale plays across the U.S., many states and local governments have implemented new regulations of the shale plays and the technologies associated with those shale plays. Currently, there are over 30 states that have passed regulations directly related to hydraulic fracturing or other technologies associated with developing shale plays. In this program, Barclay Nicholson will examine some of these regulations and the growing trend developing on regulating shale plays. He will also examine how local regulation can differ from state regulation and how an operator can resolve that tension.
You will understand environmental concerns related to hydraulic fracturing and associated technology. Numerous studies have been released examining hydraulic fracturing and the possible impact on fresh water sources. This program will examine those studies, give detailed up to date examination of the most recent studies and lay the foundation for companies and environmental groups to understand those results.
Based on an understanding of the technology used in hydraulic fracturing and the development of unconventional oil and gas plays, you will be able to better understand the regulatory and litigation issues.
