Understanding GD&T Concepts and Applicability in the Design & Manufacturing Processes

After preparing a drawing, the design engineer hands it over to a machinist. In order to explain what must be done, the communication should happen in a common technical language. This regulation and determination of that communication is what Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) system regulates. Usually a symbolic language describing nominal geometry and allowable variation, GD&T defines the geometry of parts and assembles to define allowable variation in possible size and form of individual features. It is governed by the technical standard ASME Y14.5M-2009.

This webinar by expert speaker Maribel R Perez will address the challenging concepts of GD&T and their applicability during the Design and Manufacturing Engineering processes. As a designer you will learn the process of incorporating basic GD&T concepts into designs, and as a quality inspector, you will learn how to interpret GD&T dimensioning. The session will also explain GD&T interrelationships within Manufacturing, Quality and Design functions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to incorporate the basic GD&T concepts into designs as a designer
  • Learn how to interpret GD&T dimensioning as a quality inspector
  • Get an understanding of the GD&T interrelationship within the Manufacturing, Quality and Design functions
