Utilizing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to Develop Good Quality Products with Cost and Time Savings!

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is the classic method of creating good product designs that reduce part count, simplify manufacturing techniques, and standardize parts and materials with the ultimate goal of developing a quality product at the lowest cost while saving time.

This session with expert speaker Anthony DeTroia will discuss how to design detail parts for ease of manufacturing. He will provide an introduction to the basics of welding design/manufacturing and an introduction to the basics of composite design/manufacturing. You will learn how to design detail parts to reduce manufacturing costs and how to design parts for functionality. After the review of the topics and design examples, you will be better equipped to design cost effective quality parts and assemblies.

Session Highlights

  • How to design detail parts that minimize machining challenges
  • How to design parts for proper functionality
  • The basics of welding manufacturing techniques and how to design accordingly
  • The basics of composite manufacturing techniques and how to design accordingly
  • When to apply certain dimensional tolerances
  • Best use of dimensional datums
