Analytics For Better Audit Decisions and Use of Resources.

Audits are a key management tool for governance, risk and compliance, but use up valuable resources that can be deployed elsewhere if the audits are well designed and managed. However, not all internal quality audits are created equal. Some are superficial scans of operating processes in order to check off the audit boxes. Others use a laser-like focus to evaluate controls for higher risk activities, providing greater confidence in likely performance of those processes. Identifying higher risk processes can be done using qualitative techniques such as preliminary risk analysis, or can be done using analytics based on real time data that can indicate when a particular process might have changed.

Analytics can help ensure that when the resources are used for auditing they focus on higher risk areas. While these techniques are not designed to replace the standards recommendations regarding risk orientation (e.g., audit plans should focus on importance of activities, changes, and results of previous audits), they can be used to supplement them with empirical insights.

This webinar by expert speaker Duke Okes will focus on using analytics to ensure quality using several analytical methods. This session will provide you an understanding of the advantages of analytics over qualitative approaches, and several ways with which you can use analytics. Duke will share various examples of the analysis and resulting audit decisions and explain how to use the information before, during and/or after the audit. Also, you’ll know how analytics can enhance the use of audit resources and will be able to identify potential analyses and how to conduct them. Plus, you’ll get various articles/resources for further exploration of the topic.

Session Highlights:

  • Advantages of analytics over qualitative approaches
  • Several ways to use analytics (e.g., distribution analysis, cluster analysis, correlation, ratios)
  • Examples of the analysis and resulting audit decisions
  • How to use the information before, during and/or after the audit
  • How analytics can enhance the use of audit resources
