Acceptance Sampling Plans for Attribute and Variable Data

Officials who are involved in production control and process validation often rely on sampling methods to ascertain the suitability of a process before moving to production (process validation) or for checking production lots for acceptance.

In this session, expert speaker Steven Wachs will provide you details concerning the sampling plans generation which meets the desired statistical properties. Though sampling plans for attribute data are the primary focus of this session, variable acceptance sampling plans will be discussed as well. Steven will also discuss binomial distribution and its use in developing Operating Characteristic (OC) Curves, and describe in detail the key inputs to determining sampling plans (AQL, RQL, Consumer's and Producer's Risks).

Steve will further delve into the key characteristics of the generated sampling plans (such as average outgoing quality) and briefly introduce double sampling plans. You’ll receive several example applications of acceptance sampling. Additionally, you will get to understand the use of Statistical Process Control and Process Capability methods as an alternative to variable acceptance sampling plans.

After attending this session, you will be able to understand the key inputs and problems involved in determining acceptance sampling plans. Although, generally software is used to create sampling plans, you will gain insight into the methodology and its use in typical applications.

Session Objectives

  • Get to know the Acceptance Sampling problems and objectives.
  • Understand the necessary inputs and how to specify them for generating a sampling plan.
  • How to quantify the risks of making mistakes that are inherent in any acceptance sampling plan.
  • Guidelines for establishing quality levels (for Process Validation vs. Production).
  • Key characteristics of a generated sampling plan.
  • Comparison of alternate sampling plans.
  • Understand alternatives to Acceptance Sampling for controlling quality.
