Tips On How To Document And Train Your Supervisors To Recognize Potential FMLA Issues

Despite the fact that the Family and Medical Leave Act has been around a while, employers are still not getting it right.  It is one of the most common violated employment laws – mostly due to misunderstandings of who qualifies for benefits under the Act, what events triggered benefits, and how to measure the time available to an employee.

Find the answers to these questions by joining our expert speaker Susan Fahey Desmond in this informative session.  In addition to working through the maze of how to administer the FMLA, Susan will share a number of tips on how to document and how to train your supervisors to recognize potential FMLA issues.  She’ll also give examples of cases of where the employer got it right and where the employer got it wrong (and why).

Take a look at the topics covered:

  • Know how to determine which of your employees qualify for FMLA leave – calculating the 12 month requirement and the 1250 hours worked requirement
  • Determining when an employee has given you sufficient notice of a need for leave
  • Find out what qualifies as a “serious health condition” – courts are looking closer at this issue than the DOL
  • Know what conditions qualify for intermittent leave and how to calculate it
  • Find out how to avoid retaliation claims while curbing FMLA abuse

Who should attend?

Any employer that employs over 50 employees, human resource managers/directors, benefits specialists, human resource generalists
