Averting Unionization is not a Difficult Task If your Bases Are Correct. Understand How to Control the Problems of Unionization in your Organization.

An organization with a strong organizational culture where employees are valued, listened to and appreciated properly suffers from almost no unionization at all. Moreover, if the organization’s compensation is internally and externally equitable – unionization rarely occurs.

This session by expert speaker Mary Gormandy White, M.A., SPHR will help you understand the key issues that happen within the organization and will help you address the problems of unionization. You will learn the factors that lead to employees deciding that it is in their best interest to bring in a union and pay that union in order to represent them to their employers will be discussed, information that will allow participants to identify key areas within their own organizations that may need to be addressed to reduce vulnerability in this area. Also,

  • Identify key reasons that employees would seek out union representation, including issues associated with the communication environment, management/leadership styles, compensation/benefits and more.
  • Understand the role effective leadership plays in safeguarding the organization from unionization
  • Learn key supervisory/leadership skills and management practices that will reduce vulnerability to unionization.
  • Get detailed explanation of behaviors supervisors must avoid if employees do start to talk about union organization using the TIPS (threaten, interrogate, promise, spy) strategy.

  • Key management/supervisory skills necessary to protect your organization against unionization
  • Why it’s important to have –and enforce– a non-solicitation policy as part of your efforts to protect your company against unionization
  • National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) compliance obligations as related to management/employer unfair labor practices (TIPS)
