Each Type of Supplemental Pay and the Legal Requirements Under the New FLSA Rule

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve likely heard about the massive changes coming to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Final Rule was issued on May 18, 2016 and is expected to impact over 4.2 million employees in the United States. Due these changes, employers must be more in tune than ever as to how to appropriately classify employees under the FLSA which, in turn, requires accurate recordkeeping and payments to employees. The FLSA protections guarantee workers’ pay for all time the employee “suffers or is permitted to work”. Additionally, under the FLSA, workers may be entitled to Supplemental Pay, meaning wages in addition to regular wages. How employers manage, track and pay employees is more important than ever.

During this one hour session, expert speaker, Somer V. Jefferiss Esq., PHR, will walk through the FLSA requirements and show how employers must stay in compliance when dealing specifically with special wages to employees, including bonuses, commissions, overtime, sick, PTO and other payments, as well as awards, incentive pay and wage increases. The session will cover each type of supplemental pay that employers pay to employees as well as the legal requirements that come with each type pay. Additionally, you’ll be provided with checklists for how to properly classify employees under the FLSA.

Session Highlights:
