In the operation and maintenance of energized equipment, opportunities exist for stored energy to release in such a way as to cause property damage and injuries as severe as a fatality. The prevention of these incidents is regulated by one of OSHA’s most prescriptive standards for general industry: 29 CFR 1910.147. It is also briefly covered in 29 CFR 1926.417 for construction.
This session with expert speaker Natalia Olive will identify the various types of hazardous energy (e.g. electrical, hydraulic, mechanical) that could exist in your workplace, so you can create an inventory per piece of equipment as required by OSHA. Natalia will review the various devices that can be used to ensure shut-off procedures remain in place as needed. A successful program will be outlined, indicating the key elements to implement. As the cornerstone it is to any successful safety management system, Natalia will look at the training requirements that will ensure continued effectiveness and the audit system you must have in place. She will also discuss how to approach contractors to perform work that requires hazardous energy control.
