Retaining Students at Campus with the Listening Lounge Concept

The issue of student retention has never been stronger, especially as young adults are challenging the value of an education. Past experience and research bears out that temporary emotional stress, coupled with today’s millennial clientele expecting instant relief from stress, contribute to the frequency and number of those withdrawing from college, as well as demonstrating the longer-standing research that correlates personal stress to low academic performance. Many existing programs are in place to ensure student needs are being met on campus but these are still isolated agencies that cannot respond to a client’s needs within a timely manner, especially if the client makes no move to visit the appropriate support area.

Long-term financial incentives in developing an online Listening Lounge at your institution are demonstrated primarily through student retention, by:

  • Eliminating temporary stresses that stack up on students
  • Demonstrating an atmosphere of support that could cause further education
  • Matching the social expectation of immediate response to client-distress calls
  • Providing a safe, common ground for students to share stresses
  • Investing in the reputation of being a caring university
  • Integrating, at low cost to the institution through existing online course learning platforms
  • Providing an opportunity to blend academic tutoring with stress response for client peripheral issues
  • Identifying key personnel in charge of the Listening Lounge to ensure security and routing

Join expert speaker Dr. Thomas Eaton for a live webinar where he will discuss the different aspects of listening lounge and how data obtained from it can be used to assess different problems. He will also address the issue of listening lounge privacy through different communication mediums, and how this concept can help faculty with the academic portion of their job.

  • Address the issue of Listening Lounge Privacy through multiple channels
  • Apply the data from the Listening Lounge to assess minor and major problems and giving those results to their appropriate committees for resolution
