Welcome to the new age. Gone are the days when the mountainous pressure of course work and study materials would easily frustrate your child. Even then, after so much of mugging up and slogging, the child would not be able to perform to your standards due to traditional ranking norms. It would not only leave you and the child frustrated but also demoralize and sadden them.
The all-new Standards Based Learning and Grading was started in United States based on the outcome-based education or performance-based education philosophy. The assessment of this reform is to be set with newer, higher standards expected from students. Then the curriculum is aligned to new standards and students are assessed on these standards of what every student must know and are able to do. Simply speaking, the criteria is set up for standards of what every student is expected to know and the resulting score is set after comparing them with the benchmarks rather than ranking as per norm. The idea is to get every child proficient to all academic areas by the end of a 10 year period, or longer. It is mandatory for students to achieve these standards in United States as a high school passing diploma is awarded only after the student achieves them.
The purpose of this audio conference by expert speaker Garnet Hillman is to share the experiences and expertise surrounding the topic of Standards Based Learning and Grading. You will understand the importance of healthy grading practice that supports learning in classroom. Other than the basic understanding of the principles that are behind Standards Based Grading, you will also get the resources necessary to develop grading practices in classrooms and schools. The program will end with providing you the tools to begin or continue on the path of grading reform.
