How to Handle Assistance Animals on Your Campus

Service and emotional support animals can be helpful – if not essential – for students who depend on them to function on a daily basis. But having these animals on campus creates unique challenges for administrators, faculty, and staff. What are your roles and responsibilities regarding assistance animals on campus?

Find out in this live webinar with education and compliance expert Dr. Aaron W. Hughey, who will instruct you on the ethical and legal responsibilities associated with having service and emotional support animals on campus. Because the price of noncompliance can be steep, you must ensure that everyone on your campus is sufficiently educated and trained on how to deal with this increasingly prevalent and important issue.

After attending this webinar, you will walk away with specific recommendations for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures designed to help your institution remain legally compliant and responsive to the needs of students who depend on service and emotional support animals. Learn your institution’s responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and state law. Find out whether, in light of recent high-profile claims, institutions are allowed to enforce a “no pet” policy for college housing that would also apply to service and emotional support animals.
