Event Description

Ensure Pre-Award Compliance with Federal Funding Guidelines for Children and Youth

In today’s fast-paced and competitive philanthropic world, you can’t lose sight of compliance or you will watch your federal funding stream diminish, dwindle and dry up. This is especially true in funding for education, children and youth programs. The new federal uniform grant guidance is causing many changes in the federal grant-making process. It now includes pre-award requirements such as risk reviews and integrity assessments. Federal agencies are assessing applicant risk and integrity, both pre-award and post-award. They now consider a range of criteria from financial sustainability to the history of grants distribution to previous audits.

Many grant seekers don’t know that the inclusion of annual reports and website printouts can help ensure consistency and avoid a “risk” red flag, which can mean no funding. It is also widely unknown that the definition of local governments – previously defined as entities with a guiding board or commission – has now been broadly expanded. It now includes local public authorities, special districts, school districts, and intrastate districts. Successful grants seekers understand that in the new federal giving universe, compliance matters. For many education grants, pre-award compliance – rather than post-award reporting compliance – has taken top priority. Now is the time to bring yourself up to speed on compliance issues before the upcoming grant competitions go out the door and you are left behind.

This session by expert speaker Frank Klimko will cover the compliance issues and highlight important federal funding for education and children and youth. It will emphasize how serious the agencies are about the changes and that the burden of knowing about the new mandates will be on the applicants. Not all solicitations will reference the changes because the grant-making agencies expect grant seekers to keep themselves abreast of all funding rules.

This session will help you keep up with the fast-changing education and youth funding environment, ensure you don’t lose your seat at the funding table, and get the federal money you need. It will cover how to get the government dollars and shake the money tree when needed. You will get tips to help you effectively stay ahead of the curve and get a jump on the federal grant making process.
