Go Beyond Metrics to Empower Your Student Advisors

With declining enrollments, educational institutions are increasingly relying on advisors to engage and retain students. Some schools evaluate advisors based on the number of students they contact, the academic success of their students, and the percentage of students retained. But many advisors balk at being held accountable for factors beyond their control. So how do you engage and empower advisors to have a meaningful effect on student retention and performance?

In this session, expert speaker Dr. Sue Ohrablo will discuss some of the common metrics for which advisors are held accountable, as well as strategies for better engaging advisors so that they are on board with—and can make effective contributions to—institutional goals. She will explore the concept: “If they don’t believe it, you won’t achieve it.”

Sue will examine how emphasizing and relying on metrics can be counterproductive to employee motivation and performance—and outline alternative methods to promote both student and employee engagement.

This session is designed to help you reduce advisor push-back, engage the entire student services team in meeting enrollment goals, and develop and implement initiatives that take the best advantage of your human capital.
