Who Is Losing In Retail and Who Is Winning and Why

Have you heard the news? Macy’s is closing a whole bunch of stores. So are Sears and K-Mart. And then Office Depot, Aeropostale, Sports Authority, Finish Line …. And we could go on with the obituary list for some time. 2,500+ stores are planned to shut down this year. What’s happening? Is retail dead? Should you be afraid? Is out to get you?

There is no question that retail is having a rough time. With the rise in e-commerce (mainly, discount shopping becoming the norm and the shrinking middle class, retail is doing quite a bit of downsizing. In fact, there are more than 2,500 store closings in the works across the U.S. Macy’s would like you to believe that this is happening because of ‘changing customers’ behaviors’ or, in other words, the idea that the consumption of ‘experiences’ has outpaced the consumption of ‘goods’ most notably with millennials. It is true that consumers have changed but as Daniel Pidgeon - Chairman of Dallas-based Starpower, an award-winning luxury lifestyle retailer selling premium CE and appliances – puts it, to win today, all it takes is ‘a paradigm shift’ which alludes to a new way of running your  business ‘by your customer, not your product”. And he is not alone in understanding that winning today is about shifting from a  product focus to a customer experience one because that is the only place where you can have a point of difference. Now, the challenge in today’s new heavily digital and technological business landscape is understanding how to deliver that ‘experience’ or point of difference. Learn the ‘point of difference’ of successful retailers and how you can have a winning one for your business too.

In this session by expert speaker James E. Dion you will learn strategies to prove that retail is indeed alive and well. All it needs is ‘a point of difference’ and learn at this webinar how to craft yours.
