Event Description

Issues That Lead to Scope Creep and Potential It

One of the areas that impact the proper management of construction projects is scope creep. Contractors, construction managers and project managers must be aware of the issues that lead to scope creep, such an ambiguities in the plans and specifications, undocumented communications, failure to follow contractual procedures for change in the scope of work, and the effect of changes on the entire project.

Join this presentation with expert speaker John A. Snow who will discuss the contractual definitions of the “scope of work” and how you can avoid ambiguity in scope. John will present how the scope of the work can be enlarged and expanded, notwithstanding a clear, or what is believed to be a clear, understanding of the initial scope of the work. The session will cover different methods for reducing scope creep, such as avoiding, or at least identifying, ambiguity in plans and specifications, documenting communications regarding scope, defining and adhering to procedures for change of the scope of work, fully understanding the effect of changes on the entire project, proper management of the project, and potential contractual provisions to protect the parties. You will also learn about the repercussions of scope creep.
