All too often, the process of effectively documenting and tracking work progress becomes overlooked as focus can tend to shift away from recording the daily work activities and events. If a contractor has an established protocol in this regard, collecting the appropriate information and enforcing a regimented procedure, this process can become routine. On the other hand, if daily work tracking and reporting is not an emphasized part of the culture, the contractor may be unknowingly putting itself at risk.
Sometimes, having a more robust accounting of work history becomes a greater necessity, especially if a contractor experiences a change in how the work was intended to be performed. Collecting the proper information and doing so in a contemporaneous manner can be one of the more effective methods to demonstrate and quantify the effects of an impact. Without having the appropriate record, a claim for additional or changed work can be challenged on the basis of insufficient backup or lack of support, or the claim can be denied in its entirety.
This presentation with expert speaker Peter Vosbikian will familiarize stakeholders on why it is important to appropriately document work progress, what data and information is important to record and collect, as well as how to effectively communicate a change and its impacts when they do occur.
Whether you’re starting a project, already began work, or involved a troubled situation involving additional or changed work, appropriately documenting work progress and disruptive events can be a significant factor when making a claim to recover damages. It will provide insights on how to document and effectively track work and disruptive events. This session will also review different project records and suggest considerations when preparing a change order, as well as the information that may be needed should a claim arise.
